BBB Institute marks third annual Scam Survivor Day
BBB Institute marked Scam Survivor Day by convening its third annual Scam Survivor Day symposium in May. The event brought together policymakers, advocates, and victim service professionals to raise awareness about the lasting impact of scams and the importance of supporting survivors.
Congressman Jefferson Shreve (R–Indiana), chair of the Stop Scams Caucus, delivered this year’s keynote address, highlighting the need for continued collaboration to combat fraud and strengthen protections for consumers. The event also featured an interview with Bryan Denny of Advocating Against Romance Scammers, who shared insights into the unique challenges faced by romance scam victims and the importance of survivor advocacy. Three expert panel discussions focused on victim services, exploring topics such as recovery resources, emotional support, financial rebuilding, and opportunities to improve assistance for those affected by scams.
Observed each year on the second Thursday in May, Scam Survivor Day provides a platform for survivors to share their experiences, foster understanding, and help break the stigma that often prevents victims from seeking the guidance and support they deserve. By elevating survivors’ voices and encouraging open conversations about fraud, the day serves as a reminder that anyone can become a victim—and that recovery is possible with the right resources and community support.
BBB Institute would like to thank our Scam Survivor Day Coalition partners who made this event possible.
