Military Consumer Month 2025

Military Consumer Month 2025

Service. Sacrifice. Strength in unity. These core values define the military community—and they’re also why your voice is vital in the fight against scams and fraud targeting military families.

This Military Consumer Month 2025 and throughout the year, we urge active-duty service members, veterans, and military families to take a stand:

Report all scams, even if you didn’t lose money
Share your experiences to help warn others
Protect the community you’ve served

Why Reporting Scams Targeting the Military Is So Important

Scams that target military personnel often exploit the unique financial and personal challenges service members face: frequent relocations, deployments, long separations from family, and the transition to civilian life. These life changes create vulnerabilities scammers try to exploit through:

  • Military benefits fraud and imposter scams
  • Cryptocurrency and investment scams
  • Employment scams

But you are not powerless. Reporting is a key line of defense.

In fact, according to the Better Business Bureau’s 2024 report “Marketplace Challenges Facing the Military Community”, about 73% of military consumers said they reported the scam to a third-party organization like the BBB. However, 20% said they did not report the scam, and another 7% weren’t sure if they had reported it.

Among those who did not report, the top reasons were:

  • 43.8% didn’t know where to report
  • 11.9% felt too embarrassed
  • Some who did not lose money said they didn’t feel the need to report the incident

These findings highlight why raising awareness about how and why reporting scams is so critical. Every report strengthens our defenses and empowers others in the military community to stay vigilant.
